Welcome
Hello, and welcome to the Carter for Nevada website. I'm Jack Carter and I would be honored to serve Nevada in the United States Senate.
Together with my wife, Elizabeth, I've been traveling the state, listening to our fellow Nevadans talk about their concerns, their hopes, and their dreams for the future.
I am convinced that the values embedded in the people of our State and the experiences they bring from every part of the country are the keys to solving the issues before our Nation today.
A Special Message from Jack
Well, folks. We lost. But the nation as a whole pulled us away from the precipice we faced with this Republican government. We now control the House of Representatives and, as of this writing, have a good chance at gaining the Senate. The goal in our race was accomplished around us.
I want you to know that I have no regrets. In fact, Elizabeth and I are inspired by your efforts and by the thousands of people we met on the campaign trail who encouraged us and voted for us. We were the nail, but you who volunteered your time, your money, and your ideas were the hammer that drove us home.
Remember this: I did not lose because Nevadans rejected me or my message, but because I didn't meet enough of them. I am convinced that we Democrats can cut through the cynicism left by corrupt politicians and bring solutions to the problems we face in this country. And I'm equally convinced that our message of focusing the government on the working men and women in this country will ultimately triumph.
Take what you learned in this race and apply it elsewhere. Leave the cynicism to the other guys. Let's take another step forward in 2008 to add to the ones we took last night.
Elizabeth and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Y'all did great. We're proud to have worked with you.
Rock and roll!
Jack Carter

Outrageous Ensign Vote of the Day - Nov 7
Today, let’s talk about some votes that Senator Ensign has cast that don’t even have a bill number – and the vote that we have to keep him from being able to cast next January. This is the vote for Senate Majority Leader.
Senator Ensign has voted, every time he could, for Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee to become Majority Leader. Frist is the doctor who misdiagnosed Terry Schiavo based on a video of her and called the Senate into special session to intervene in her medical care. Next year, if Senator Ensigh were re-elected, he would vote for another Republican, probably Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
The Republican leadership has run the Senate like a closed club. Breaking longstanding tradition, the minority party (until January, the Democrats) have not even been able to introduce their own amendments. Worse yet, they have added provisions to bills at the last minute in conference committees. They damaged Nevada by slipping the online gaming ban into the Port Security Bill at the last moment, at the same time that they slipped out several important bills dealing with Port Security. And they damaged the Constitution by slipping into the National Defense Authorization Act a bill to give the President the right to take over the National Guard of any state, over the Governor’s objection, for any emergency he deems fit, and use them for domestic law enforcement – breaking a policy of almost 130 years.
John Ensign has crowed over his standing in the way of Yucca Mountain. But here is what the truth probably is. Knowing that a tough Senate race was possible in Nevada, the Senate leadership has gone easy on Senator Ensign for now. With the election over, will they slip in a bill allowing nuclear waste into Yucca Mountain some midnight in some conference committee? Why wouldn’t they? They will figure that, by 2012, voters will have forgotten what they did in 2007.
There is only one surefire plan to saving Yucca Mountain. That is to elect Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader – in a position where he can block any proposal to ruin Yucca Mountain before it ever gets to the Senate floor.
John Ensign won’t vote for Harry Reid for Majority Leader. Jack Carter will. The fate of Yucca Mountain may depend on that one vote.
